Monthly disposable
income calculator.
What’s left after everyday costs? Bring your take-home income and spending together for a simple monthly budget estimate.
Your monthly numbers
Use amounts for the same household and month. Estimates are fine. Enter 0 where there is nothing to count.
Money received after payroll deductions. Do not subtract those deductions again below.
Housing, food, utilities, transport, insurance, and other costs. Leave out debt payments entered below.
Include each payment once. If a mortgage or car payment is in living costs, do not add it again here.

THE MATH, NOT A MYSTERY
How this estimate is calculated
Take-home income minus living costs minus existing debt payments. Nothing is inferred about deductions, exemptions, eligibility, or what you should pay.
$3,200 in. $2,700 out. $500 left.
$3,200 take-home income − $2,400 living costs − $300 existing debt payments = $500 remaining each month. That figure does not account for any costs you left out.
A few useful answers.
Is this a bankruptcy means test?
No. This is household cash-flow arithmetic using take-home income and the costs you enter. A legal means test uses prescribed definitions, deductions, and forms. This result cannot establish eligibility or a Chapter 13 payment.
What if my income changes each month?
Use a representative monthly average from your records and include occasional costs, such as an annual bill divided by 12. Recheck the estimate when your circumstances change. This is not a statutory six-month income calculation.
Should I include my mortgage or car payment?
Count each payment once. If it is in living costs, leave it out of the separate debt-payment total. Keep your records so you can split aggregate figures into individual accounts later.
What does a negative result mean?
The costs you entered are higher than your take-home income for that month. Check for missing income, duplicate costs, and mismatched time periods. The number does not tell you whether to file for bankruptcy or stop making a payment.
Are my numbers uploaded or saved?
The calculation runs in your browser. Entering numbers does not send them to our server or save them to your workspace. Reloading clears the calculator. If you choose to continue in the local workspace, this tab temporarily stores the transfer, and you review it before adding. Ordinary page requests still go to the website host.
